AUTOMATIC POWER FACTOR CORRECTION SYSTEMS

 
 

In all LT Supply System, the reactive Power can be compensated, either independently for individual loads, or centrally with a Bank of Capacitors at the service entrance.

Independent compensation for individual long-time-connected equipments like induction Furnaces, Pumps etc., for reduced current consumption and consequent reduction in sizes of cables and switchgear.

However, centralized compensation is ideal for most industrial units where only part of the connected loads is energized most of the time and thus TOTAL CAPACITOR BANKS CAN BE REDUCED, considering the coincidence factor. With the New Generation Electronic Trivector Metering installed in almost all utilities now, AUTOMATIC POWER FACTOR CORRECTION SYSTEM is the need of the day for most medium & large installations. The payback period on the investment in APFC system is relatively shorter.

Dhandapani Power Factor Correction Panel
Dhandapani offers a range of APFC systems for such centralized compensation, suitable for 415/440V ac, # Phase, 50Hz Systems.

Compact Panel (40-100kVAr)
Compact stand-alone type, ideal for Commercial and Business Establishments, Hostels, Sports Centers, Small Industries, Residential Apartment Complexes etc. Range includes 40kVAr to 100 kVAr.

Standard Panel (100 - 400 kVAr)
Ideal for almost all Medium & Large scale Industries and Large Workshops. Range includes 100 to 400kVAr, in (modular) Panel construction. Also available in higher and intermittent ratings.

Filter Panel
Harmonic generating Non-linear loads are rapidly increasing (such as installation of Arc Furnaces, Variable Frequency Drives, Uninterrupted Power supplies, Battery Chargers, Computers etc.) Custom made Filter Panels incorporate a Detuned Low Voltage Automatic Power Factor Correction system, which consists of Harmonic currents and Voltage in the systems.

APFC systems are fitted with:

1. Dhandapani range of LT Capacitors of appropriate choice or as opted by customers: 

 

a. MPP-Dry type Capacitors in cells of various rating housed in modular Aluminum Cans. (Or)

 

b. MPP-Dry type Capacitors assembled units of 5 to 30 kVAr for Industrial Duty and Industrial Heavy Duty Application. (Or) 

 

c.
ALL PP-Vacuum impregnated oil filled Polypropylene Dielectric capacitor or Mixed Dielectric capacitor in hermetically sealed units of 5 to 30 kVAr.

2. Power Factor Control Relay in 3, 4,6,8,10,12 or 14 steps of state of the art Micro-     Processor- based Versions from Germany or equally reputed indigenous make.

3. Capacitor Duty Contactors of Siemens/GE or equally reputed make.

4. Control Circuit Protection and Isolation MCBs/Fuses.

Construction
APFC System are housed in Compact, Wall-Mounting (up to 100kVAr) or Free Standing (up to 400 kVAr) type, CRCA Sheet Steel fabricated, Metal treated, Powder coated enclosure (Color: Light Grey RAL7032 textured) suitable for indoor installation, with IP42 protection and conforming to IS:8623.

Automatic Motor Compensator (AMC)
Dhandapani 'AMC' is an integrated compensation system meant for direct connection across medium and large motors. It is a cost effective solution for Automatic Power Factor Improvement in industries such as Cold storage plants, Rice mills, Oxygen Plants, Small industries, etc.

AMC avoids over compensation which normally happens if a bank of fixed capacitors are used centrally at the service entrance. Over compensation also adversely affects the average PF Reading for the month.

Added Advantages
APFC Systems are well ventilated and adequately designed for ambient service conditions of -25c to +50c and have VERY LOW WATT LOSSES due to the use of low loss Capacitors, Reactors and Capacitor Duty Contactors.

Distribution Transformer Compensator (DTC)
In all HT Installations the Transformer alone is an inductive load viewed from the HT side. Hence it is necessary to connect a separate fixed capacitor of suitable rating to take care of transformer compensation.
